Mental Diseases

Since 2008, mental disorders have ranked first in the number of licenses granted in Chile.

Beyond the access problem.

Mental illnesses are often difficult to diagnose because they are largely screened for through self-reported symptom checklists. Unfortunately, few physiological tests aid in an effective and accurate diagnosis.

Diagnostic Errors.

According to a 2012 article in Current Psychiatry, between 26% and 45% of patients referred with “depression” did not meet diagnostic criteria for a depressive illness. A 2009 meta-analysis found that general practitioners can only correctly identify depression in 47.3% of cases.

We are advancing in better clinical diagnostics.

A good diagnosis allows access to appropriate therapies and treatments, and, therefore, a better quality of life.

At IMPACT we are advancing in the validation of a clinical diagnostic algorithm based on protein biomarkers of clinical use to improve the diagnosis of mood disorders.
