The importance of advanced therapies in the fight against cancer.
Advanced therapies are highly innovative treatments based on the use of genes (gene therapy), cells (cell therapy), or tissues (tissue engineering) to prevent or treat various diseases.
They result from years of research and technological advances aimed at generating personalized treatments, establishing a true revolution in biomedicine, and offering an answer to complex diseases for which there are no effective treatments, or conventional therapies with dangerous side effects.
Adoption, manufacture and validation in the country
Every year, 2,766 patients in Chile are diagnosed with different types of cancer affecting the blood (such as non-Hodkin’s lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and multiple myeloma). Of these, 511 could be candidates for this type of treatment.
One of the main challenges is the high costs of these therapies. At IMPACT we are working to generate national advanced therapies for the treatment of different types of cancer that are more accessible and affordable for the population.
