IMPACT researcher participates in Medical Congress in Singapore

Sebastian Illanes Lopez, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Clinica Universidad de los Andes and principal investigator of IMPACT, participated in the 57th Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine in Singapore. The theme of this 2024 was “Rethinking Women’s Health” and considered the breadth of all clinical specialties with a focus on patients to provide a unique opportunity to delve into important issues and challenges they face at a multidisciplinary level.

The congress program addressed diverse topics such as maternal and child related diseases, cancer, mental health, genomics, innovation. In this context, Dr. Illanes presented a research he is conducting to improve women’s health, related to preconception diagnosis, and the search for biomarkers in menstrual fluid to predict potential complications before the patient becomes pregnant.

This research is in addition to others carried out by Dr. Illanes, related to the prediction of pregnancy pathologies and fetal programming, especially in the field of neurodevelopment and cardiovascular risk.

Dr. Illanes, who is also a full professor at the Universidad de los Andes (CL), was distinguished in 2023 with the S. Shan Ratnam Professorship in Obstetrics & Gynecology of the National University of Singapore, and is currently Visiting Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the same university.
